Ohio Thunderstorms Primed for 70 MPH Gusts into Pennsylvania — SevereWX
Clusters of thunderstorms persisting over northwest into west-central Ohio this morning are set to ramp up by early to mid-afternoon, bringing the primary risk of damaging wind gusts up to 55-70 mph into eastern Ohio, western Pennsylvania, and northwest West Virginia.
SPC's Mesoscale Discussion 1995 highlights a key corridor of fewer clouds downstream from morning convection, allowing stronger daytime heating. With dewpoints in the low to mid-70s°F, MLCAPE should climb to 1500-2500+ J/kg, eroding convective inhibition and fueling storm intensification.
Ahead of an MCV in southeast lower Michigan, the Indianapolis VWP shows 30-40 kt westerly winds in the 1-5 km layer, supporting cold pool organization for gusty outflows. A brief tornado can't be ruled out (up to 90 mph possible), but veered low-level winds limit greater shear and spin-up risk.
A severe thunderstorm watch is likely within the hour, covering this zone. Check SPC's graphic for the latest.
Stay prepared: Monitor local NWS updates, have a weather app ready, and know your safe spot indoors away from windows for potential severe warnings.
