Bow Echo Powers Up for Damaging Run Across Eastern Illinois into Indiana

A potent bow echo is exploding southeastward from northeast Illinois, just south of Chicago, straight into far eastern IL and northern/central IN. SPC's Mesoscale Discussion 1764 flags a 95% chance of a new watch issuance within hours, highlighting the storm's raw power in an ultra-unstable environment.

Radar from KLOT shows 80-knot winds hugging the surface already, with 3000-4000 J/kg MLCAPE and 45+ kt shear fueling the beast. This organized line is screaming forward at 40-45 kt, primed to carve a swath of 65-80 mph damaging gusts. Add in isolated 1-1.75 inch hail and a tornado or two (up to 85-110 mph), and it's a classic severe setup through early evening.

Downstream from Watch 520, central IN's ripe airmass will keep the momentum going. Peak threats hit western edges of Watch 519 soon, then push deeper into Indiana. Populations along I-70 and nearby metros, take note—this isn't fading out.
