Iowa averages 55.7 tornadoes a year (1996–2025), about 5.7 of them rated EF2 or stronger.
60% of them touch down between April and June, and May alone accounts for 23%. The busiest year on record in that span was 2024, with 124.
Storm reports average about 338 for large hail a year (27 of them 2 inches or larger) and 458 for damaging wind (2016–2025).
