A cluster of thunderstorms in southeast Ohio is pushing east-southeast into a more unstable atmosphere across northern West Virginia, fueling a growing severe weather threat this afternoon. According to the latest SPC Mesoscale Discussion (1688), this activity will bring the primary risk of damaging wind gusts up to 70 mph, with large hail (1-1.75 inches) also possible.

Farther southwest, additional storms are expected to intensify into supercellular structures amid sufficient wind shear. These could produce the main wind threat, but large hail remains on the table, and one or two tornadoes (85-110 mph, EF1-EF2) can't be ruled out—especially as the low-level jet ramps up into the evening.

The affected region spans northeast Kentucky, northern West Virginia, and southern Ohio, with a severe thunderstorm watch likely within 1-2 hours (80% probability). Storms should peak through mid-to-late afternoon.
