The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) flags a 40% chance of a watch issuance within the next few hours due to the potential for damaging wind gusts up to 55-70 mph and even a tornado or two.

Despite modest mid-level lapse rates, abundant heat and dewpoints in the mid-to-upper 70s°F are fueling robust buoyancy—MLCAPE values of 2000-3000 J/kg. This supports strong downdrafts loaded with high precipitable water (PWATs), increasing the odds for gusty outflows. Effective shear around 20-30 knots could organize storms into lines or clusters, especially across north-central Alabama spreading into Georgia and southeast Tennessee.
