Wichita-Area Storms Poised for Supercell Evolution into Missouri

Storms are gaining strength just east of Wichita, Kansas, this late evening, with potential to organize into supercells as they push into western and northern Missouri. The Storm Prediction Center highlights a setup ripe for severe weather along a lingering frontal zone, where cool, moist air clashes with hotter conditions to the south.

Despite some lingering low-level inhibition, ample instability (MLCAPE 1000-2000 J/kg) and effective shear (35-45 kt) could fuel rotating storms. A subtle midlevel shortwave trough nearing from the west, combined with strengthening warm air advection aloft, is boosting storm coverage across eastern Kansas.
