A loosely organized Mesoscale Convective System (MCS) is sliding south-southwestward off Arizona's higher terrain into the scorching lowlands of central Arizona this afternoon and evening.

Surface temperatures exceeding 110°F combined with 50s°F dewpoints are fueling 1500-2000 J/kg DCAPE—downdraft convective available potential energy. This setup, paired with 50-60°F temperature-dewpoint spreads, primes robust evaporative cooling within embedded downbursts. SPC forecasters highlight potential for multiple severe gusts, with a couple possibly topping 75 mph and reaching the most probable 65-80 mph range.

As the MCS's cold pool spreads into this deeply mixed boundary layer, one or more haboobs could form, slashing visibility and amplifying wind hazards. The Storm Prediction Center pegs watch issuance odds at 60% within the next few hours (valid through 2345Z).

Central Arizona residents, especially near Phoenix metro influences, should monitor radar closely. This isn't a widespread outbreak, but the combo of extreme heat and storm outflow packs a punch.
