A diffuse baroclinic zone north of a stationary front from northern OK into southeast KS is setting the stage for strong to severe thunderstorms through the late evening hours.

Cool, moist air north of the boundary clashes with hot, well-mixed conditions to the south, fueling instability. MLCAPE ranges from 1000-2000 J/kg with effective shear of 35-45 knots, enough to support organized storms if they can root themselves despite some lingering MLCINH.

Storms are already intensifying east of Wichita, with more coverage expected as strengthening low-level warm advection and a midlevel shortwave trough over western KS push activity eastward into western and northern Missouri.

Initial development could yield supercells capable of 1-1.75 inch hail, 55-70 mph wind gusts, and a brief tornado or two (up to 90 mph). Modest lapse rates may cap the upside, but clustering near the MO border could amplify damaging wind threats as storms become more elevated.
